26 Jul The River Café
Within paddling distance of the Thames, Ruth Rogers has been shaking up London gastronomy with fresh pasta and whole fish in her smart-casual, totally iconic restaurant, co-founded with the late Rose Gray 30 years ago.
We went in for a lengthy lunch: bass carpaccio, tomato and oregano as an antipasto; followed by ricotta ravioli with garden herbs, lemon zest, butter marjoram and Pecorino; then from the fuschia-pink wood oven comes the secondo (whole Anjou pigeon with Tuscan roast potatoes). Add some beautiful Italian wines and a Grappa and raspberry panna cotta, and it’s la dolce vita (more for a special occasion, but still la dolce vita).
