Sardine

Joe Woodhouse©
Tucked behind the sad City Road McDonald’s and the Old Street gas station lies this little shiny gem of a neobistrot (bright wood, concrete, pastel colours and communal table) open from dawn to dusk.

Inspired by the Mediterranean, chef Alex Jackson (Dock Kitchen, Rotorino) rustles up simple and straightforward with a loud Provencal accent, but not only: radishes, crème fraîche and bottarga; Spanish-like grilled calcots and romesco sauce; fragrant hake, clams and rouille stew; roast chicken with anchovy butter, bacon and sprout tops; nougat ice cream and fennel biscuits… Linger over the charming company of Michele Alois’ Caulino Falanghina, and come back en famille to share a bouillabaisse or a lamb à la ficelle.
