13 Mar Sambal Shiok
The ultimate taste bud tickler stall since 2013, Sino-Malaysian Mandy Yin’s laksa bar has finally turned brick-and-mortar on Holloway Road last June. Since then, people line up endlessly in front of the bright window front, to plunge chopsticks first into her electrifying take on the Kuala Lumpur noodle soup.
Once in this joyfully pop blue-white-red canteen, preferably snugly perched on the open kitchen counter, customise your noodle soup: traditional shrimp-based or vegan broth; rice or egg noodles; full or westernised heat; poached chicken, aubergine or king prawns… Keep it simple and add in some fenugreek crackers, a soft and crunchy fried chicken with peanut sauce and an lemongrass-chilli iced tea to put the fire out.
