Sabor – The Counter

It’s the latest “delicious” talk of the town. And it’s worth it, as this tapas spot by Nieves Barragán and José Etura (ex-Barrafina) is definitely worth the non-detour in Central London. Play it three Spanish ways, from the bar to the asador. The deal here? Counter dining along the black limestone bar shared with the azulejos-tiled kitchen, on which the native staff scribbles your order.

In this fun, Hispanic hubbub, it’s time for the seafood-focused daily menu. No way you can resist the delicate shrimp croquetas rolled and fried in front of your eyes, nor the crispy pan con tomate topped up with cecina. Save room post-tapas for the succulent, tender red mullet arroz. Then for the grande finale, tuck into the sunny saffron and honey ice cream, teased with chocolate crumbs. Language practice continues in the copas: dry Siderit gin or vermú La Cuesta, ¡Salud!
