23 May Marcella
Italian neo-bistro Artusi‘s little sister Marcella is well worth the trip to up-and-coming Deptford. Once past the white front window, rock’n’rolled by skilfully scattered turquoise spots, welcome to Bright Land. Long rows of duo tables and school chairs, you don’t have to wait for the stroke of a stick to take a seat. No paper menu, raise your head towards the blackboard and decipher the gourmet lesson of the day.
There’s hardly time to contemplate the artichoke-shaped lamps, before the real ones arrive on a plate, either confit with smoked and sizzling Treviso bacon, or fried with creamy aïoli. But most of all, make way for the homemade al dente pasta cooked to perfection (small or large version), like the classic spaghetti with crispy garlic, silky olive oil and fiery chili.
