Sardine

Joe Woodhouse©
Tucked behind the sad City Road McDonald’s and the Old Street gas station lies a little shiny gem of a neobistrot, all about bright wood, concrete, pastel colours and communal table.

Inspired by the Mediterranean, simple and straight dishes by chef Alex Jackson (Dock Kitchen, Rotorino) loudly sing in Provencal, but not only: radishes, crème fraîche and bottarga, Spanish-like grilled calcots and romesco sauce, so fragrant hake-clams-saffron-tomatoes-potatoes-rouille stew, roast chicken with anchovy butter, bacon and sprout tops, nougat ice cream and fennel biscuits… In the charming company of Domaine de Flassian’s Crémant de Limoux or Michele Alois’ Caulino Falanghina.

At brunch on the weekend, the mood is more about herbs and cheese omelettes and breakfast cassoulet, anticipate!
